Rivets

Do Not Solder or Laser Weld Rivets!

This will make it impossible to remove and replace correctly.

Removing:

  1. Use a ball bur size 06 and create a deep set mark in the center of the rivet. Use caution to not enlarge the hole.

  2. Place the ring on a wooden surface and tap out the rivet using the set mark to guide you. A useful tool for this task can be made using a broken or used ball bur to create a pin punch; knock off the bur and use a separating disc to shave down the neck of the bur so that it is thin enough to pass through the rivet hole.

  3. Once the rivet is about half way out you can grasp it with a pair of pliers and gently wiggle it back and forth till it is removed.

Replacing:

  1. Use 21 gauge wire to match ring and insert into the rivet hole (if the hole is too big increase the size of the wire to 20g).

  2. Trim the wire to 3.5mm in length.

  3. Use a #11 beading tool and create the rivet ensuring it is even on both sides.
